Overview

Celonis refreshed its existing Munich headquarters and expanded into new floors, creating a workplace that supports growth, transparency, and exceptional employee and customer experiences.

Opportunity

Transforming the birthplace of a global technology company into a transparent headquarters designed for growth, innovation, and customer engagement.

Celonis, a Munich-founded technology company specializing in process mining, partnered with Gensler to transform its headquarters into a workplace reflecting its identity as an industry pioneer. Rather than relocate, Celonis chose to remain in the building where the company was founded, preserving a place with deep emotional significance while preparing for its next stage of growth. The project needed to integrate three additional floors, create a customer-focused Executive Briefing Center, and translate the company's core value of transparency into architecture.

Why This Matters

  1. 01

    Supporting Rapid Growth

Celonis needed a headquarters that could accommodate continued growth, integrate three additional floors, and strengthen collaboration without losing its culture or identity.

  2. 02

    Making Values Visible

Transparency becomes a spatial experience through open sightlines, visual connections, and shared spaces, creating a workplace that makes collaboration and Celonis’ process-driven culture visible.

  3. 03

    Designing With Restraint

Rather than relocate, Celonis transformed the building where it was founded into a headquarters that celebrates its origins while supporting future innovation and sustainable growth.

Solution

Gensler translated Celonis’ process-mining methodology into an architectural concept that reveals structure, materials, connections, and hidden potential.

Inspired by the principles of process mining, the workplace treats the building like an X-ray, exposing its underlying character. Selected walls were removed, concrete and steel were left exposed, and the existing structure became part of the architectural language. Across six floors, retained building elements are paired with targeted interventions supporting focus, collaboration, customer engagement, and brand expression. A restrained black-and-white palette and honest, durable materials create an authentic workplace that reflects Celonis’ culture.

How process mining became an architectural strategy for transparency, reuse, customer engagement, and workplace connection.

The design process began with Celonis’ business: uncovering hidden patterns to create better outcomes. Gensler translated this idea into an architectural strategy of revealing and refining the building itself. Layers were peeled back, structural elements exposed, major systems retained, and simple, durable materials carefully selected to support comfort, acoustics, and sustainability. On the upper floors, the existing staircase was transformed with custom open-cell grid cladding, re-engineered to meet German manufacturing and building standards.

Impact

The completed headquarters celebrates Celonis’ origins while creating a transparent, customer-centered workplace designed to support continued innovation and growth.

The Munich headquarters creates a distinctive physical expression of Celonis' identity, bringing employees and customers together in an immersive workplace and Executive Briefing Center. By retaining existing materials and building systems, the project minimizes unnecessary waste while creating a bold and authentic environment. Flexible workplaces support collaboration, customer workshops, and brand storytelling across six floors. Through thoughtful, low-intervention design moves, the headquarters achieves a high-impact workplace while supporting LEED Gold certification goals.
